God Made a Farmer

Crops

Crops, crops and more crops.  At Cedar Hill Farms, we grow corn, soybeans, wheat, barley and hay. Because we have a diverse operation, we are able to use our grain to also feed our livestock. Any feed that is not fed to our animals is sold to local feed mills, where it is used for feed for other animals . We are using up to date technology on our equipment, which has allowed us to be more efficient in crop production. We also strive to be good stewards of the land by implementing good conservation and soil management practices to be sustainable.

Beef – Cow/Calf

Our family has been raising beef cattle for generations. We now raise around 75 cow/calf pairs each year. Most of our herd is made up of registered Angus cows. The love for the Angus breed stemmed from a family tradition of showing cattle through the local 4-H program and the American Angus Association at a regional, state, and national level. Angus cattle are known for their strong maternal instincts,  great milking capabilities, and high fertility rates. These qualities have allowed us to have a production oriented herd that we are proud of.

Beef – Finishing

In addition to our cow/calf operation, we also finish over 1,500 head of beef cattle each year. We are very pleased that our cattle consistently produce quality beef. Our meat is supplied to  restaurants and grocery stores near and far. Before our meat can get to your plate, there is a process.  Our cattle’s feed ration is important to us. We feed corn silage, grain corn, distillers, and produce. They also receive all the fresh hay, water, and minerals that they want.

Fun fact – outdated produce at your local grocery stores is recycled and comes to our farm daily. The produce is added into our feed ration and the cattle LOVE it. Anything from oranges to coconuts, you name it, they eat it. They even love the pumpkins in the Fall. Lemons and limes are their least favorite- it must be the bitterness.
